what a man, what a man, what a mighty fine man

I still don't get the beauty of old movies. Yet...
But, I used to think Clark Gable the hottest man on the planet when I was in early teens.
Have a great, healthy weekend!

A friend of mine pointed out that, regardless of orientation, everyone is attracted to Scarlett and Rhett.

Wow, they are gorgeous people. :)

I love Gone With the Wind.

Holy Crap!!
5 hours, I had no idea.
Rhett and Scarlett were amazing. Only a Rhett could tell her off at the end and leave, and we know that she will ultimately prevail. Great movie. Lots of cool trivia (Gary Cooper and Lucille Ball as R&S anybody?). Hope you feel better.
Why did no one tell me that it's OVER FIVE HOURS LONG?
Because it's only 3 hours and 46 minutes long. I love that movie. Lost count of how many times I've seen it years ago. Love the book, too. Have you read it? You must. Yes, I know it's even longer than the movie, but the movie makes so much more sense after you read the book.
then we must have rented some sort of special or extended or anniversary edition or something because we started watching it at 7 or 8 and didn't finish until almost 1am. It took 2 DVDs. ... hella long, nonetheless.

But yes it was good. I've heard the book is much better, and maybe I'll put it on my list for someday. My list is getting really long, what's one more? :)

How about the sequel? Worth watching/reading?

I liked Rhett more than I thought I would.

How about the sequel? Worth watching/reading?

Yes. I know I saw the movie, though I don't really remember as it would have only been one time. But the book is very good. I absolutely recommend reading it after you read the original. Now I'm thinking it's about time to read it again....
I love this movie. Of course. But I also kind of blame it (and other movies like it) for being attracted to men who, when you get right down to it, just aren't that nice.

Um, about Scarlett (the sequel). :) I just read that toward the end of last year (along with GWTW and Rhett Butler's People, the "companion piece" to GWTW) and it's really not that good. It's fun--kind of--and it's trashy but it's not really recommended reading. And the movie? Well, the casting left a bit to be desired (Joanne Whalley-Kilmer as Scarlett? Timothy Dalton as Rhett? REALLY?!).

I have the four-disc 65th anniversary edition and I think it will take me several days to watch the movie and all the special features (two discs for movies, two discs for features). But I'm excited for it 'cause I do love the movie.

Being a southerner myself and living not far from where Marget Mitchell lived, I can tell you the movie is much beloved among us. However, I agree wholeheartedly with Kelly - don't waste your time on Scarlett (the sequel).

Now if you really want to understand the south (how it was), rent "North And South". It is an EXCELLENT miniseries you can get through Netflix. A bit more real in its depiction of the war and life in that era. Honestly, most of us southerners would say it trumped Gone With the Wind, if doing such wouldn't get us barred from family barbeque's and reunions for the remainder of our lives. :)
My ancestors were sharecroppers. No "big house" or hoop skirts for us.
