QotD: Time on Your Hands

Excellent point about prioritizing and cutting out those things not a priority. I used to get really bogged down doing stuff for other people to the point of not doing my own stuff. It was a hard thing to learn to say no. Very difficult indeed.

Not driving has helped me to prioritize. Now that it actually takes me a while to go somewhere, I have to stop and think "Do I REALLY need to do that??", whereas before I would just get in my car and zip all over the place.

I deliberately try and set it up so I have "nothing" to do--it gives me plenty of time to read, watch TV, hang out with my dog, breathe. I see people at the station get so wrapped up in their jobs that they totally forget that they have a life outside of work. And I refuse to be like that. They'll get me for 8-9 hours a day, but I do not loiter after work and I don't check up on things during the weekend. That's crazy.

I have no problems with prioritizing and dumping things that really aren't all that important. I also have no problem with managing the time I do have. And if I feel the need or desire to take time off and do nothing (or waste my time on meaningless activities) I do so. But that doesn't mean that I ever find myself with nothing to do. Why, even if I restricted myself to working on my quilting 24/7 I have so many unstarted projects floating around in my brain that I'll never get them all done. And then that crazy John fellow keeps adding new ideas to my list. Somebody really should take him out and shoot him. 8:-)
You know, that's a great point. I hadn't thought of it like that before.
Life is not meant to be some exasperated struggle from one day to the next.

i totally agree, Bee

i always have something to do - but, i usually interpret that as "i'm never bored" - i could be sitting here daydreaming, staring at the ceiling - but i'm still doing something :)
